FREE SINGING COURSEIn 2005 and 2006 the chorus ran 2 very successful 6 week "Harmonise" singing courses which were open to all men and were entirely FREE - yes FREE! This was made possible with financial assistance from Aberdeen City Council and our Society.
A third such 6 week course for men was successfully held in January and February of this year at our usual Practice venue at Woodside Church Hall. Around 40 guys enrolled and 30+ consistently took their place on the risers each Tuesday. In fact 19 guys had perfect attendance over the six weeks.
Under the expert tuition of Chorus Director Colin Reid two songs and a tag were learnt along with numerous techniques to enhance the singing capabilities of each course member.
The crunch came on the last Tuesday of the course, when the fledgling singers performed on their own in front of friends and family that numbered near 100 as part of a short concert programme which also featured the Chorus. For many this was the first time that they had performed under such circumstances.
To provide further encouragement for the chorus there was a resounding vote of thanks from the new singers and over 20 requested application forms for the chorus.
A structured programme exists for integrating singers into the chorus and this is going to be well tested over the next few months as the guys find their feet (and voices!)
WHY DON'T YOU COME AND WATCH ONE OF OUR REHEARSALS
A city the size of Aberdeen should easily be able to support a male chorus of over 50 voices, so if your interest is aroused in reading this why not come along and watch us on any Practice Night --- you'll be made very welcome.
You might even want to join in!
No previous choral singing experience is required as training and coaching are given every Practice Night on all aspects of singing technique. In addition we have coaching sessions from invited coaches, the latest having been at an away week-end at the Letham Grange Golf Resort near Brechin. You'll never get better coaching as an amateur singer!!
If you can talk, you can sing, and in the Barbershop style there's a part for every voice.
From the deep Bass
to the high Tenor,
from the anchor of the chorus, the Lead part, to the musical acrobats, the Baritones we can find a place to suit your voice and aspirations.
All that's needed is a desire to sing and entertain. In time, you might even wish to form your own quartet within the chorus and explore your vocal capabilities further.
We are aware that it can be embarrassing singing with strangers for the first time, so we endeavour to put you at your ease and not let that happen.
Come on! At least give it a try! You'll be made very welcome.
What is there to lose? Why not look to bringing a friend?
